Prescription Medication Drugs: Imitrex

Drug Uses Imitrex is used to treat migraine headaches.

How Drug Works Imitrex targets the blood vessels and the nerves which cause the migraine headaches.

How Taken When you have migraine symptoms take one dose of Imitrex. In some cases two doses, but not more than 200 mg a day, can be taken only if instructed by your personal healthcare practitioner.

Possible Side Effects The following side effects can occur when taking Imitrex: dizziness, nausea, fatigue, drowsiness

Warnings/Precautions If you have any of the following conditions you should not take Imitrex: allergy to Imitrex, Raynaud syndrome, strokes in the past, certain types of heart disease, transient ischemic attacks, uncontrolled blood pressure, peripheral vascular disease. You should consult your personal doctor before taking this medicine if you smoke, have high colesterol or high blood pressure, diabetes.

Overdose In case of overdose you must get immediate medical care.

Drug Interactions Before taking this medicine inform your personal doctor if you take any headache medication, ergotamine or MAO inhibitors such as linezolid, furazolidone, tranylcypromine, phenelzine, selegiline.

Missed Dose Imitrex is not to be taken routinely. Only take this medicine when a migraine attack occurs.

Storage Keep this medicine in its container, at normal temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of the reach of children.

Pregnancy/Nursing If you are pregnant please consult your personal doctor before taking Imitrex.
